BA hons HPQH
My name is Shona Phimister and I have been working in Alternative Provision for over 14 years. I have had many roles including learning mentor, coordinator, teacher and now Curriculum Manager. I passed my National Qualification of Headship in January 2022 and am now starting my own provision which specialising in working with young people that don't fit the mainstream education model and could benefit from a holistic setting built around a creative curriculum that builds confidence while delivering academic success.
I myself am dyslexic and have attention deficit disorder which means the traditional classroom setting was difficult for my own learning and I fully understand the needs of the young people. This lead me down a vocational pathway which I believe was instrumental to my success as a senior leader.
As a senior leader in a Freeschool, I have experience in a variety of roles such as Policy writing, curriculum writing, Quality of education, bid writing, timetabling and delivering a vast number of subjects as well as leading a team of teachers to deliver a successful curriculum which resulted in an OFSTED Good with outstanding leadership.

Having fallen into the world of alternative education some 20+ years ago, it's a place where I have witnessed the impact of lives for the better. Because of my traumatic upbringing my time at school was littered with issues and the feeling I wasn't understood or listened to, Its my aim as senior leader to enable every student to feel heard and wanted. As part of a team that grew an education project into an independent school and then into a free school I absolutely believe there is scope for high quality alternative provision which provides support, purpose and progression.
As a senior leader in a Free School I have developed many roles over the years, on a need to learn basis. Currently I am curriculum lead for Wellbeing and designated safeguarding lead among other roles including -
Online Safety and Technical security manager
Quality of Education
Policy writing and development
Education Visits Coordinator
Prevent.
