Who's stupid?

Today in my art class, I took the opportunity to lead a discussion about hidden disabilities and how we need to be more understanding of peoples differences.

You would be shocked at how many young people have been told they are stupid by adults in their lives.

Let me put this very simply. . .Being told you are stupid does nothing for you, it doesn't help you improve and it absolutely does not make you feel good.

If you didn't do a great job at something, that's cool, we all need to learn, but what would have been more helpful would have been to be told what you did do well (so you can do more of that) and a few tips on how to improve.

Giving someone feedback on how to improve enables them to actually move forward.

Being told you are stupid is useless information, often not true and can be sole destorying.

Nobody is stupid, we all learn differently and we are all on a journey of learning.
